Highlights from the Memorial Day Stay-cation of 2012 included:

  • Spending time with my brother
  • Hanging out in the sun, on my back deck, with my dog
  • Lot’s of grilling and eating a delicious fruit and cheese plate
  • Spending what time I could with my busy husband
  • Having lunch on the deck with Teeny and Jake
  • Mani/Pedi
  • Checking out all of the beautiful flowers in my yard
  • Watching dragonflies and butterflies buzz about
  • Reading all of my favorite Women’s Magazines
  • Listening to Eat, Pray, Love
  • Dinner with my family on Sunday and the first bocce game of the season

I have another stay-cation planned for this weekend. But tonight I get to go on a really fun date with Jay. Heading to my favorite place in Boston. Plus 1 if you know where that is…

It is Memorial Day weekend and the weather is hot, humid and sunny. Most are heading to the beach, but I am sitting on my top deck, watching my dog sniff the fresh suburban air while I listen to Eat, Pray, Love and the studio construction below me.

I am practicing my own brand of absolute pleasure. I made something like iced coffee and fluffy chocolate chip pancakes. I’m enjoying the birds and the heat. My hip has stopped throbbing and I will be able to go out today.

I plan to visit the farm stands in North Andover to buy fresh produce. I will be a little self indulgent and get a long overdue pedicure. I will make fresh lemonade and perhaps grill a salmon fillet and brussels sprouts for lunch, coupled with leftover brown rice.

I am going to read, enjoy the sun and perhaps take a nap. Like everyone else in the U.S., I have long needed this long weekend and I am reveling in the fact that the weather couldn’t be any better.

In fact, I may even sit with my notebook and write. What a wonderful thought.

What are you doing this weekend?

Another wonderful day in the beautiful — but windy — Santa Barbara, California. Went for pedicures and errands with Pamela. I always love spending time with her.

Jase finally came and got to see his mom play Skyrim. I started reading about Buddhism, which has been popping up regularly in my life lately.

I had a blast doing Dana’s makeup, which had me wishing I never stopped. I used to be so good and, if I may say so, I did a nice job this evening.

We all went out to a fancy French restaurant— Petit Valentien. The food and service were incredible. I had the pan-seared duck with mashed, spinach, and a fantastic black cherry glaze. It was followed up by (more) creme Brûlée at a restaurant where the waiter forgot Andrew’s dessert.

Also, Pamela bought me three long-stemmed roses. They have the perfect fragrance.

Jase and I came home to find that Harley (chihuahua) had rummaged through the trash. It made me miss my little dog.

Time for Samantha Who? and sleep with my snoring husband.
