#BandWifeFail - Who needs to see, anyway?

J left for Australia about a week ago. The two weeks he had been home went by so fast. Between having an injured lower back and his wildly insane work schedule, it felt like I didn’t see him.

We had a really fun time going through all of the t-shirts he had collected over the years and getting rid of the ones that no longer fit him. After running a few errands, he made his way to the studio while I packed his bag.

Here’s the thing - I may suck at packing, but I always remember to pack everything J needs. That’s why I pack for him in the first place.

I put his eye-wear items in his clothes bag but thought better of it and took the case down to the studio with me to see where he wanted it. Then I took the case with me upstairs to get the travel bottle of solution. I packed the solution, which I had to refill and did so in the kitchen, and a mini tube of toothpaste.

Off we went.

I don’t know if it was because I didn’t get enough sleep or because my brain was fogged from the medication I had been taking in an effort to heal my back, but when I got home that night and went into the bathroom, there was the case.

Just sitting there, glaringly, on the counter.

Ugh.

So I immediately messaged him on Viber even though I knew he wouldn’t get the note until around midnight. I apologized profusely. I thought back to the moment in the kitchen when he said, “I think I’ll put my contacts in before we go,” and I persuaded him to keep his glasses on until he landed, as he had been having trouble with his eyes.

The next day, the IM came.

“First show of the tour and someone has already stepped on and broken my glasses.”

Because the fail didn’t make me feel bad enough to begin with, this, too had to happen.

Soon the next IM came.

“Honey, I see the toothpaste but I don’t see a toothbrush?”

No, of course you don’t see a toothbrush. I forgot to pack one.

This was the biggest tour packing fail I have had. I got notes from some of my fellow band “wives,” whose men were also on tour. One forgot to pack face wash and the other forgot to pack washcloths.

None of us are perfect, right? It all works out in the end - J was able to get both a toothbrush and a pair of contacts. This does mean I am going to put an actual list together, though.

Have you ever forgotten to pack a key essential for your touring fellow?
