Gisele Bundchen the Yoko of the Patriots?

This morning I woke up to a tweet from my former colleague calling Gisele, “Yoko.” I didn’t understand why she would be saying this, but it caught my eye because of a blog post I wrote last month. When I turned on the radio this morning, I understood where this tweet came from:
Waiting for an elevator after the game with some other Patriots’ wives, Gisele was videotaped saying, “I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times. My husband cannot f—-king throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.” — Celebrity Circuit, CBS News
Of course, this comes after her email to friends and family asking that everybody pray for her Tommy. And so the bashing began.
What set Gisele off was a New York fan yelling, “Eli owns your husband.” This super model is number one in the world for a reason — she has the fiery attitude and force to get herself there. Why wouldn’t this come out when someone is trying to be nasty about the man she loves?
I’m sure that in the heat of the moment, Gisele had not considered that the Patriots have a general rule against commenting on the performance of other players. She didn’t consider who else would dislike this particular reaction. Every New England fan was a little heated last night, it just happens to hit her a little bit harder.
Every wife and girlfriend chooses to handle this kind of thing differently, whether it’s someone talking poorly about the guy they love or someone being a little too flirtatious.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to give someone online the what-for because of what they have written about my husband’s art. Of course, I don’t because:
- It is not my place
- Everyone is entitled to their opinion
I respect and understand Gisele’s love for her husband and her desire to protect him, but her response to the obnoxious fan (hanging out in a restricted area, by the way) is probably not the path I would have chosen.
It isn’t just about her husband — there is an entire team standing with him that she needs to consider when she makes certain decisions and takes certain actions.
I don’t know that I’d consider her the Yoko — as I understand it, she hardly ever shows up at games and I have never heard of her jumping on the field to work out with the team.
What do you guys think? Did Gisele do the right thing? Would you have done the same thing? Is Gisele the Patriots’ Yoko?
