Yesterday, Jase and I grabbed a couple of coffees and breakfast burritos and headed over to Las Vegas. My mom lives there, and since we hadn’t yet been out to visit, we thought we would surprise her.

We are glad we did!

It was Jay’s first time meeting my step-dad, Tim, and my first time meeting my mom’s new cats! Above is Jax, who is so sweet and lovable. His sister, Gwen, is so so pretty.

We went to downtown Las Vegas for dinner and a few beers. Freemont Street is one of my favorite places in the city. There are margaritas the size of your head, dozens of casinos, bands playing on multiple stages, and a giant video canopy:

“The attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 ft (27 m) high at the peak and four blocks, or approximately 1,500 ft (460 m), in length.”

They actually added a zip-line to the attraction, so there were people flying through the air down the street. It was really cool.

After dinner, I had deep fried Oreos and Jay won $5. We watched the KISS light show before dropping mom and Tim off at home, and calling it a night at Excalibur — where I learned that I am incredibly allergic to whatever they use to wash the linens.

It was so wonderful to see and surprise my mom. I think we were both equally excited to see one another. Lots of catching up and lots of nerd/tech talk. It was a great night.
