Tour day 3: $5,000 & 2 transmissions later…

It’s Friday night and I seem to be coming down with a cold. Tonight will be spent reading The Secret Lives of Wives by Iris Krasnow on my iPad. I heard her interviewed on the Jim & Margery show one morning and some of the things she discovered whilst writing this book proved to be quite scandalous — in one instance a woman found out her husband had been having an affair with a sheep. I think it will be an interesting read.

I had no desire to head to the grocery store after work and don’t exactly have all of the things I need to cook a proper meal (I really need to stock up on some frozen vegetables) so I cooked the macaroni and cheese bites I had in the freezer. How can you go wrong with that? Now I have Frasier in my DVD player and a glass of 2010 Bogle Sauvignon Blanc to enjoy on this rainy evening in with Niles (yes, he is named after Niles Crane). If you’re looking for a fruity, light and citrus flavored white wine that won’t break the bank, I highly recommend this one.

Now if only there wasn’t a dude recording bass in my basement, this could be a fairly pleasant evening despite my budding cold.

I always seem to stray from the subject of my posts. As many of you have read, the transmission in Defeater’s van blew on day one and they had to pay $2,500 to fix it. They also missed a show in Montreal. Well, today they got on the road to Toronto and the van was making clunking sounds. They were able to haul the van over to another auto-body shop where they learned the first shop had taken them on a run for their money.

Essentially, the new transmission they bought had old parts in it that needed to be replaced and when the mechanic put the transmission in he put a hole in the fluid line. By the time they made it to the second auto-body shop, the entire transmission was burned out.

There was only one other time that I have heard Jay sound as upset and despondent as he sounded tonight on the phone. I hardly know what to do for him when he is like that because 1. there is nothing I can actually do and 2. he is almost never so hopeless sounding.

It’s the first time Defeater has done a full U.S. tour in years and they were all really looking forward to it. They feel terrible that they’ve had to let so many people down and I hope everyone can understand. Canada, I know they will be coming up to see you in the coming months.

I have another, more interesting post in the works. My head just isn’t in the right place to tackle the issue at this moment. Maybe tomorrow.
